Love is not blinded by color,
Nor does it judge one another.
It really is patient and kind,
And it isn't that hard to find.
Eyes really are the soul's mirror,
As it reveals our true nature.
There's good and evil everywhere,
As is the truth that's always there.
Black is just another color,
It doesn't define who we are.
It's our thoughts and actions that do,
As these are choices made by you.

This black cat appreciation calendar points out the obvious.  Did you know black cats (as well as dogs) are the last on the list when it comes to animal adoption?  The false tale of their evil nature came only after a cat was badly injured due to a father and son throwing rocks at it.  It was later seen in the company of an older woman who never married.  This is where the tale of so-called witches and evil cats began as judgemental men and women took it upon themselves to create hysteria.

When the hunt was on to exterminate all cats (not just black ones) the species was nearly extinct.  It was during this time the population of mice and rats exploded.  Without enough cats to do anything about it, those rodents ran rampant, spreading disease.  This is how the bubonic plague got its start.

Realizing cats weren't so evil after all and that they were needed, common sense finally returned to enough members of the population to leave them alone.  It was cats that put an end to the bubonic plague.

And this is where some cultures, namely the British and Japanese, came to regard black cats as good luck as they put an end to a pandemic that claimed thousands of lives.  Unfortunately, too many still believed the tall tales about black cats being evil.  While some honestly believe this to this day, others use occasions like Halloween as an excuse to perform acts of animal cruelty against a creature that is every bit as innocent as a newborn baby.
